Earth Day

A Fierce Green Fire is a film that will take you an an exploration into the environmental movement in honor of Earth Day. A Fierce Green Fire went over 50 years of Grassroots and global activism from the 60's- 2009 and connects the causes of environmentalism, from conservation to climate change. Rex Weyler and Paul Watson went on a rescue mission in 1975. The mission was to hunt down a Russian whale hunting fleet hunting a pod of sperm whales. Although they did their best, they were unable to stop the fleet from harpooning two whales. Rex and Paul were scarred by the event of watching two whales die right in front of them. I believe that we should start hiring people to search the ocean for harpooners and arrest them.

Ghosts in the fog

Ghosts in the fog is a nonfiction story about the Japanese invading Alaska during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The Japanese invaded two Alaskan islands, but the Government denied it to keep from widespread panic. Attu and Kiska. They occupied these islands from June 3rd 1942 to August. 24th 1943. First off introducing the team of US navy cryptographers who translated messages from the Japanese commander regarding mass attacks on the US. However, an admiral of the US navy decided not to brace because he believed it was a trick. This was a deadly mistake for lots of citizens. June 3rd 1942, the Japanese began their attack on Dutch harbor. However, they didnt find what they were lookin for. So they moved on. On June 6th they moved on to the island of Kiska but there was only a weather team of about 12 men. So they moved on and invaded they island of Attu. They rounded up all 44 residents and took them prisoner until September, then set them free to their looted and shot up homes. It took 15 months for the US military to regain the two islands. This was such a controversial point in American history because the Government hid an attack on American soil from American civilians. It's almost frightening to think that that long ago, the Government hid stuff like that from us. Imagine they things they could be hiding 70 years later.

NASA

The initial driving force to once be known as NASA was due to the launch of Sputnik on October 4th 1957. Ever since then, humans have been cranking down on technology.NASA was first founded July 29th, 1958. What NASA was basically about, was the new goals, space exploration, and great technological advancements. NASA was originally linked to Sputnik. An artificiall satellite we launched. NASA was only involved with such expertise, that we landed people on the moon just 11 years after the monumental corporation . A couple big names contributed to founding NASA. Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Wernher von Braun, and Richard Nixon.
NASA was actually founded in 1915. However, it was known as the National Advisory Committee of Aeronautics, or NACA. Quite the monumental leap happened in this time period. With  lots of time and careful thinking we were able to produce something so huge and technological we could send other humans in there, and shoot them up to the moon and hope to god everything goes smooth. However, we did work our way up. Started off with project mercury to see what was necessary to get people to survive in space. Then soon enough after that come project Apollo in 1969 when we landed the first humans on the moon. Simply remarkable. Humans were blessed with the gift of curiosity. Ever since the dawn of time, humans have been wondering around questioning life and all of its obstacles. We have come a long way since those Neandrathals though. Rather than figuring out now to start a fire to keep you safe throughout the night, we figured out how to make a huge rocket that we stuff humans inside of and shoot off into space to see how sketchy they can get on the moon. And hopefully everything goes to plan. Therefor NASA was born.

Bataan Rescue

In 1941, tens of thousands of Filipino and American soldiers fought a battle to defend the Bataan peninsula in the Philippines from the Japanese. After they lost, they were marched to prison camps through the blazing hot, mosquito infested, greasy jungle with little or no water. Thousands died along the way. The Bataan peninsula forms  the western side of Melina Bay, this became known as the site of the Outnumbered American and Filipino forces retreat after Japanese attack in December 1941. Four months into their resistance, desperate American and Filipino forces were merely out of food, water, ammunition, medicine, and other supplies. MacArthur had been evacuated from the Philippines. Hunger and disease were getting to be extremely common within the population of the soldiers. The cruelty among the determined Japanese soldiers was unpredictable. Over 72,000 people were marched to prison camps. For some the trek could take up to three years. BY the end of the war, 37% of all POWs in the Pacific theatre would be dead. A monument was put up on top of of a 4,500 ft. mountain on the southern part of Bataan to honor the people who suffered and died there during the war.
 On April 3rd, 1042, Japan launched its final offensive on Bataan. April 9th, General Edward surrenders Bataan.

Roosevelt: President Roosevelt.
New Deal: Restoring the economy from the top down
2nd New Deal: Period after mid-term elections.
Criticism:President's policies had to change.
Conservatives: People must be responsible for themselves.
Liberal: There are people in this world who need help.
Effectiveness: The degree to which something is successful.
Changes in the U.S.: Life is much more peaceful. 
Unions: PEople who agreed with something would form groups called unions.
Culture: Huge music and art culture.

Babe Ruth

In baseball there is a wonderful moment. The moment where the ball hits the bat, and flies out of the field. This is known as a home run. Babe Ruth was one of the greatest baseball players who ever lived. He Practically invented the home run. He revolutionized his sport.There was nobody in statistics of power who came close to him. There was nobody who played the game better than he did. The biggest sports name in the history of America. He had a great personality as well. Ruth had a rough childhood, and all he could do was play baseball. Ruth could play every position perfectly. Although Ruth could play every position perfectly, his pitching shined the most. Ruth introduced the "live ball" era. The home run was such an amazing thing during Babe's time. Home runs were so amazing that when he was scoring his first home runs, the other team collected the balls. In 1920 as an individual Babe Ruth out hit 14 of the 16 teams in the major league in home runs. Babe Ruth used a 54 ounce bat. The heaviest bats nowadays is 36 ounces. Babe Ruth made the Yankees the world wide sports sensation they are today. Before Yankee Stadium, the Yankees shared a rented stadium with the New York Giants. Babe Ruth attracted so many fans that they had to build a much bigger stadium. Today, this is known as Yankee stadium. He was Americas first sporting celebrity. He was quite possibly the most photographed man in American history.

Letter home

Hello family, I hope all has been well in the last six months. I really miss you. I just thought that I'd let you all know that I'm doing ok. I'm not hurt. I will tell you, it's rough out here. I've been assigned to ambulance driver. I've seen a lot of awful things since i've been gone. Things that i'll never forget. Terrible things, that no matter what I do, will scar my brain till the day I die. It's a scary place. I've had to drive my bleeding out friends to the base, i've had to frantically escape a bombing in an ambulance with as many people as we could pack in. I nearly got crushed by a collapsing wall. You never know what to expect out here. You must be on your toes at all times or you will get hurt. I've been praying every night. Sometimes a couple times throughout the day. I'm always thinking about you guys. Everything reminds me of you guys. I just cant stop. Soon enough though. I'll be walking through that front door of ours as if I just attended a business trip. I love you guys. I'll see you soon. Take care
